Flaming Manna: A Challenge for Low Level Spellcasters
Flaming Manna is used primarily in low-level campaigns, ranging from first to third level. Throw this in the spell book of any opposing arcane spellcaster, and have him cast it at the beginning of the combat. It’s difficult to overcome, but not impossible. Your players will be challenged by it, not crippled. It’s perfect to let your players know that this won’t be just a typical campaign.
Level: 2nd Level Wizard/Sorcerer
School: Evocation
Components: V, S
Casting Time: One Standard Action
Range: Centered on Self
Area: 20 ft. radius/level
Duration: two rounds/level
Saving Throw: Will
Spell Resistance: No
When Flaming Manna is cast, all manna within the sphere become infused with dangerous energy. All spellcasters within the radius must make a will save whenever they cast a spell, or take one point of damage. This does not affect the caster of Flaming Manna. The damage is minimal, however it is enough to demand a concentration check from the spellcaster to finish his spell, possibly disrupting a potentially destructive incantation. Particularly paranoid spellcasters might cast this spell more than once, to increase the chances of disrupting the magic coming his way.
