Secret Society: Fey Hunters

“Burn.” Kraige, the dwarven wizard, commanded. The land obeyed, bursting into flames before him. The village woke from its sleep and elvin children fled in every direction. Kraige snickered as a barrage of arrows flew out from the forest, killing the children as they ran. “Attack!” The dwarf yelled to his hidden troupe, and over a dozen figures, human and dwarf, charged towards the village. They gleefully slew the elves as they stumbled for weapons, burned their huts and laughed as their victims lay bleeding and burning.
One elderly elf stumbled towards Kraige, recognizing him as the leader. “Please…” he gasped, barely able to speak over the smoke. “Please, what can we do to make you spare the rest of us?”
“Nothing.” Kraige replied, gnashing his black teeth together, and beheaded the old man with his axe. “Get to work men,” Kraige yelled, “I want this land ready to be mined tomorrow.”
The Fey Hunters are a vicious, ragtag group of extremists, dedicated to removing the “plague” of elves from this world. The individual motivations vary from member to member, some are religious fanatics, others were raised to think this way and some are just in it for profit. Members do not particularly care about the motivations of their kindred hunters, only the ends matter to them: the complete genocide of the elvish race, along with any other fey they can find.
The Fey Hunters were founded fifty years ago by a rich human noble, who, despite his wealth and power, had become as powerful as he could given his environment. Filled with a desire to gain more, he turned to the elvin territories, which he viewed as an easily conquerable and exploitable land source. With the help of a dwarven cleric who had lost his sight as a child during an incident with an elf, he began spreading religious propaganda about “The Plague of the Elves.” Unfortunately for the two of them, the task of securing isolated elven lands proved much more difficult than they had expected, and they eventually fell prey to an ambush, where they were killed and their bodies burned. However, this was not before they had created quite a following, and the organization has existed independently ever since.
The Fey Hunters have no official form of leadership or government. Any member may come up with a plan for attack and try to rally support. Any hunters who wish to follow him may do so. However, some members’ opinions obviously carry more weight than others, due to previous successes or personal power. The Fey Hunters are made up of humans, dwarves and goblinoids, no other race is allowed in under any circumstances. The Fey Hunters are exclusively male, somewhere along the line the idea of being female became equated with being an elf. Fey Hunters attack isolated targets, small villages out in the middle of nowhere. They know that they are not yet powerful enough to withstand the full force of an elven army, or any other government that takes too much interest in them. Currently, they are trying to build their numbers while making small strikes, hoping to win their war with attrition.
Below is a list of some of the more well known members of The Fey Hunters. In total, there is estimated to be between 70 and 100 members.
Kraige-This dwarven wizard is perhaps the most infamous member of the Fey Hunters. He was recruited just before the founders died, to lend arcane power to their small army. His cruelty and greed are well known, but what he has never told anyone is that it was because of him that the founders of The Fey Hunters died. He secretly arranged for them to walk into the ambush that killed them from behind the scenes, and to this day politically blocks all efforts to resurrect them (“We just don’t have the gold, or the power, yet.”) With no formal leadership, Kraige has become a sort of accepted figure of guidance for the Fey Hunters. He personally does not believe in “The Plague of the Elves,” he is in the organization to gain access to un-mined land the elves are currently sitting on. Kraige specializes in fire spells, and especially enjoys seeing his victims burn to death.
Vair-The son of the cleric who helped to found the society, he blamed elves for his father’s blindness before he died, and his death has only served to fuel Vair’s hatred even more. He is following in his father’s footsteps, becoming a powerful cleric in his own right, and hopes to one day revive his father from the dead. He practically worships Kraige, seeing him as a guiding force from his father, the last major decision he made before he died. If Vair learned about Kraige’s betrayal however, there is no telling how violently he would react.
Mask-A mysterious masked assassin who rarely speaks and never reveals his face or name. He is unique among the Fey Hunters in that he refuses to work with others. He generally obeys the interest of the rest of the society, and takes any mission assigned to him, though he also occasionally takes up missions of his own invention. His attacks are rarely large scale, and he tends to try to kill specific targets.
Shalan-A goblin diplomat of great influence among many tribes. He does not handle elf killings himself, but is the main recruiter among goblinoids for the Fey Hunters. He hopes to relocate his fellow goblins to the elven lands that they conquer.
