The Blood of Caroz
This horrible cult keeps to the shadows, never revealing themselves to the public or challenging authority. Instead they move slowly, citizen by citizen, family by family, occasionally completely claiming an entire village. Even in the rare case where they make some public action, such as overtaking a small outpost, they do not do so under their own name. They have gone by many names, usually incorporating blood somewhere into it, but only a handful know the name the higher-ups use: “The Blood of Caroz.”
The leader of The Blood of Caroz calls himself Caroz, though this is only an alias. Caroz is a tenth level sorcerer, Balor demon. He was once a powerful demon lord, who led an army of great might. He collected demons that had ambitions of power and convinced them that he was the one who could fulfill their dreams for them. Eventually, his army grew so large that he was able to challenge the most powerful lords on the plane. Caroz declared war against them, and many creatures thought that he might be able to overthrow the demon lords, but he was betrayed by his second in command. With a cold iron dagger, Caroz’s right hand man stabbed his lord in the back. Leaderless, Caroz’s army fell to the opposing military.
Caroz was taken prisoner and tortured almost to death, barely kept alive by his captors. After decades of this, a few of Caroz’s remaining supporters nearly managed to break him out of his prison. They failed and were promptly executed, but the demon lords determined that it was no longer safe for Caroz to remain there. Afraid that, even if they killed him, he would somehow be revived, they marked him with a binding symbol and banished him. They intended to send Caroz to some distant, desolate plane to suffer in solitude for the rest of his days, but the remnants of his followers intervened. They attacked during his banishment, and in the ensuing chaos a word was misspoken and Caroz was sent to the material plane instead of some alien world.
Caroz is now stuck on the prime material plane, unable to leave or summon other demons. While he hates it here and wishes to return back to his home plane, the symbol stops him from doing so. Currently he is researching potential ways to remove it, but has been unsuccessful. His banishment has given him time to think, and Caroz has decided to take advantage of the situation as much as he can. He believes that his mistake was trusting other demons. It is in their blood to be selfish, he rationalizes, he was fortunate that he was not betrayed sooner. Caroz believes that he needs more reliable minions, yet they must still be powerful. And so, Caroz turned to half-fiends, what he believed to be the perfect solution.
Caroz has been breading half-fiends for years now, hoping to create an army of these abominations. Initially he held back, only creating a handful to see if the selfishness and disloyalty of demons would affect a half-specimen. The specimens he created seem loyal enough, so he is going forward with his plan to create even more. For his part, he does not care for his children. They are weak abominations in his eyes, but necessary tools if he is to conquer his home plane. In addition, Caroz has been rounding up human slaves. They may not be nearly powerful enough, but the way he sees it they would be excellent cannon fodder.
Below is a list of some of the higher-rank members of The Blood of Caroz.
Lenax: An orcish half-fiend, Lenax worships his father like a god. Caroz trained him from a very young age to respect his demonic father, and Lenax has done nothing but comply. Caroz is particularly not fond of Lenax, he believes that orcish blood is inferior to the other dominant races, but tolerates his son’s presence because he may yet be useful. Lenax is a fifth level cleric and preaches the word of Caroz to other orc tribes. He hopes to win his father’s love and respect one day, and to rule by his side when Caroz finds a way home.
Fren: Fren is a human half-fiend who is known for her superior fighting skills. Caroz taught her himself, and her fighting style is modeled entirely after the demons. She is extremely vicious, having inherited her father’s cruelty. She is fond of anarchy and general mayhem, and brings her father worshipers by enflaming the prime urges within the common man. She has a great deal of respect for Caroz, though perhaps not love for him, and she has in turn earned his respect as well. Fren is a fifteenth level fighter.
Gaxatril: A tenth level human half-fiend necromancer. Gaxatril tries to infiltrate death worshipers and convince them to join her father’s cause. She is also responsible for coming up with undead for Caroz’s army, which he views as being very reliable, albeit weak. Gaxatril is more or less ignored by Caroz, she spends most of her time studying and only sees her father once or twice a year for updates. Gaxatril does not like her father, but she is too afraid of him to fight back or try to leave The Blood or Caroz.
Magaron: A seventh level rogue Dretch demon. The last member of Caroz’s demonic army, Magaron spent decades trying to find his master. Magaron is extremely loyal, mainly because he thinks Caroz is his best chance to getting power. Caroz is suspicious of the Dretch, he never even knew Magaron when he was a demon lord, and he is reminded of the betrayal he suffered the last time he trusted another demon. Still, Caroz is unwilling to simply kill the Dretch, he believes Magaron could be useful and he is desperate for allies. Therefore, Magaron is sent on less important missions, kept away from anything important, yet still contributing to the cause.
