Rita and Baron

These two mysterious creatures wander the world in secret, calmly and coolly walking through everyday society as though they were a part of it. Naturally, these monsters are nothing like the humans they walk amongst.

Little is known about Rita and Baron. No one knows why they are here, what they really are, or even if there are more of their species out there. They are an enigma, unique and deadly. Rita appears as a female of whatever species is prominent wherever she is. Because humans are so common, she typically appears as a beautiful human, and only changes this disguise when she absolutely has to. She has no known true form, even in combat she maintains her illusions. Baron on the other hand appears as a large black dog when he is in disguise. He plays the part well, but deep down he is quite intelligent and sadistic. In his true form, Baron appears as a red, scaled, dog-like creature with three eyes.

In truth, Rita and Baron are one creature. They share a single mind and are connected by an invisible, alien link. Their motives are unknown, however they are known for hunting down very specific creatures. Sometimes their targets are powerful public figures, and sometimes they are simply normal peasants who seem to have nothing unusual about them. How they select these victims, and what they hope to gain from their deaths, is a mystery. Rita has been known to wear the jewelry of those that she and Baron have killed as a sort of trophy, and Baron has been known to eat his fill of the corpse whenever he is able.

Both Rita and Baron have the following abilities:
Empathic Link: Rita and Baron always know where the other is, always see through the other’s eyes and always experience what the other is experiencing. The two have one mind directing them, so there is never any disagreement between the two. No known magic can sever or suppress this link.
Physical Link: Rita and Baron can never be more that two hundred feet from one another. An unbreakable link is between them, and if one was to be forcefully moved further than two hundred feet away the other would be pulled along. They will even be dragged through strong physical objects to stay within two hundred feet of each other. No known magic can sever or suppress this link.
Revive: If either Rita or Baron is destroyed, the other can return the other to life through a ritual that takes three days to complete. At the sunset of the third day, the deceased party is returned to life. If one dies the other experiences intense pain, incapacitating him or her for one round.
Expeditious Retreat: As the spell, Rita and Baron have this effect permanently.

Poison Barb: Once a round, Rita may sacrifice one of her attacks to instead attack an opponent with a poison barb she keeps under the skin of her hands. She attacks with a +18 to hit and the barb itself deals 1d12 damage. The target is affected by a Poison spell, as though it were cast by a 12th level cleric.
Fists: Rita has a deceptively powerful slam attack. Her fists are treated as +3 weapons and deal 3d10 damage for every hit.
Alternate Form: Rita can assume a female form of any humanoid creature. However, her overall appearance of a beautiful, black haired female stays generally the same, and many who have seen her can recognize her in any of these disguises.
