Shalians

Major predators of the subterranean, these creatures are especially feared by creatures that call the underground their home. The drow are especially hunted by the Shalians, who consider them to be quite tasty and filling compared to other creatures. At one point this preference drew a number of Shalians to the Underdark and for three nights they attempted to break into the great city. Eventually the high priestesses grew tired of this and returned the attack, killing almost all nearby Shalians. A few still remain in the area, picking off drow that wonder too far or attacking adventurers. While the species is almost extinct near the Underdark, they are more common elsewhere and are not near extinction.

Shalians are completely hairless and have the main body of a giant, almost feline creature. Their flesh is pudgy and thick, covering them with a protective layer of blubber. Five tentacles emerge from their bodies in various locations, their main weapon. Shalians lack teeth, and therefore swallow their victims whole, but only after death.
