World View

Enchantment (Compulsory) [Mind Affecting]
Level: Wiz/Sor 8, Bard 6
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 Round, See Text
Range: Touch
Target: One living creature
Duration: Permanent
Saving Throw: Will Negates
Spell Resistance: Yes

The target’s memories are completely altered to the will of the caster. The caster puts forward a set of parameters and the target’s memories are changed to match it. For example, the caster may put forward the parameter “You were born in the town of Riverhill” and the target’s memories would change to accommodate that command. All other memories would remain intact, the subject would simply remember his home town as being Riverhill. If he ever visited Riverhill he would be confused to see that it was completely different from how he remembered it. The caster could just as easily say “The sky is red” or “you are female.” In these cases, the subject fully believes these things and would see the sky as red or himself as female, no matter how much he is told by others that he is wrong.

Through this spell, the caster may insert any number of memories or alternate ways to see the world. The caster may insert one command per a turn, which counts as a full round action. While the spell is being cast the target is kept in a trance, only vaguely aware of his surroundings. Any openly hostile action against him during the casting of the spell breaks it off immediately. If the caster is dealt damage he must make a will save DC 15+the damage taken or the spell is interrupted. If the spell is interrupted by any means the caster stops being able to add new commands, but all commands added prior to the spell being interrupted remain.

World View can be used to cover up certain talents or abilities the target has. For example, a caster can use World View to convince another caster that he does not know how to cast magic. However, all these abilities remain, they are simply forgotten. If the caster can be convinced to try to cast a spell again, he will succeed (much to his surprise.) World View can also be used to change the target’s alignment.

The effects of this spell are permanent. Nothing can dispel or remove them, not even a Wish or Miracle. Another World View spells can return the target to normal and enough Modify Memory spells can theoretically achieve the same effect. However, this is done through a series of commands and altered memories, for example “You were born in Highfall,” “The sky is blue” and “you are male.” In order to do this, the caster must have enough information about the subject’s life to undo the effects, which is often impossible.
