Corrosion Worm

Corrosion Worms are rare and typically inhabit the deep subterranean, beneath even the drow. However, occasionally one makes its way further up, either into a subterranean complex closer to the surface or above the earth altogether. While they are feared for their power, some drow have begun using Corrosion Worms to fight their enemies for them. Using one of them as bait, dipped in strongly scented oils and fragranced with powerful incense, they lure a Corrosion Worm to an enemy and just watch the ensuing mayhem.

Corrosion Worms are enormous and black. They have no eyes, they navigate entirely by scent, and a long, snake-like tongue. They constantly taste the air and usually charge after the strongest-scented living thing they can find. Corrosion Worms reproduce without the need for a mate, they lay one egg every five years. Then they abandon they egg and forget about it, leaving its child to grow up on its own and fend for itself.

Corrosive Blood: Any item that comes into contact with a Corrosion Worm’s blood takes 5d6 acid damage. Magic weapons are allowed a save.

Acidic Bite: Any creature struck by a Corrosion Worm’s bite attack takes 5d6 acid damage.

Acid Spray: Once every hour a Corrosion Worm can release a fifty feet long cone of acid. All creature within that cone take 10d6 acid damage (reflex save for half.)

Improved Grab: To use this ability, a Corrosion Worm must hit with its bite attack. It can then attempt to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. If it wins the grapple check, it establishes a hold and can attempt to swallow the foe the following round.

Swallow Whole: A Corrosion Worm can try to swallow a grabbed opponent of a smaller size than itself by making a successful grapple check. Once inside, the opponent takes 4d8+12 points of crushing damage plus 7d6 points of acid damage per round from the worm’s gizzard. A swallowed creature can cut its way out by using a light slashing or piercing weapon to deal 50 points of damage to the gizzard (AC 23). Once the creature exits, muscular action closes the hole; another swallowed opponent must cut its own way out. A Gargantuan worm’s interior can hold 2 Huge, 8 Large, 32 Medium, 128 Small, or 512 Tiny or smaller opponents.

Scent: A Corrosion Worm navigates entirely by scent. It cannot be blinded and invisibility illusions do not fool it, but if a creature does not give off any scent it is effectively invisible to the Corrosion Worm.

Tunnel: A Corrosion Worm can move at half its normal speed through earth, even solid rock.
