The Target must already be asleep to be a target for Eternal Slumber. If the target fails his will save he remains asleep for the duration of this spell. The target ignores disturbances, such as the sound of combat and even weather such as rain, but wakes up if he takes one point of damage or more. Shaking the victim does not wake him up, and the victim can even be picked up and carried without breaking the spell. It is entirely possible for a victim to die of thirst or hunger while under the effects of this spell. Elves who are in a trance can also be targeted by this spell and remain in their trance until the spell is broken or wears off.
