Regiton

Regiton is a creature with only one purpose: to destroy the world. It is a machine, though no one entirely knows who built it, or when. Some claim that a kindly wizard made it, but made a horrible mistake. Others claim that it was made as a creature of war by a desperate and dying society. But the most common story is that it comes from another world altogether, summoned here through malice or folly, and has worked rigorously towards destroying the planet ever since.

Regiton is an enormous sphere supported by four clawed legs that meld seamlessly into the body, almost like water. It is made from an alloy of gold and steel and is covered with an assortment of colorful jewels. The gemstones act as Regiton’s eyes and they allow it to see everything around itself. On the bottom of Regiton is a large ruby, through which it uses its “Disintegrate” ability. Regiton is capable of rotating itself so it can fire its “Disintegrate” ray in any direction, making it a very effective weapon.

Regiton typically finds a place to begin its work, aims its “Disintegrate” ray downwards and just keeps shooting. Ultimately its goal is to reach the earth’s core and destroy it, but thus far it has failed to even get through the planet’s crust. It has been repeatedly stopped by adventurers, and even destroyed a few times. Yet every time it has rebuilt itself and begun its insane chore again.

Regiton does not move or change its location to begin destroying the world. If it is in, or near, a civilization, it will destroy all life nearby before drilling its way through the earth. If convenient, Regiton will acquire gold and steel in case it needs to repair itself later. Regiton usually leaves a large crater wherever it has been and become infamous locations.

Regiton has a small following of mortals who wish to bring the doomsday. They stay far away from the creature and attempt to keep meddlers away. Regiton does not acknowledge these mortals as its allies and kills any that it spots.

Disintegrate Ray: Once per a round Regiton can fire a “Disintegrate” ray, as per the spell cast by an 18th level wizard (even though Regiton does not have the intelligence score normally required to cast that spell), +27 to hit with a DC of 35. Once per a day Regiton can fire a supercharged disintegrate spell that deals 42d6 damage and has a DC of 40. The supercharged version can destroy a 30 foot cube of nonliving matter.

Heat Ray Blast: Three times per a round (in addition to the disintegrate ray) Regiton can fire a ray of heat energy from any of the gemstones on its body, requiring a ranged touch attack to hit, +27. The rays deal 18d6 fire damage.

Body Transfer: If Regiton is losing a fight it can attempt to transfer its existence into another body. With a successful touch attack it can inject itself into a humanoid creature, in the form of a golden dust. The touched creature must make a fortitude save, DC 35 or be affected by the “Host of Regiton,” see below.

Repair: With a pound of gold and iron and an hour to work, Regiton can repair fifty points of damage.

Component Sense: Regiton knows the location and amounts of all gold, iron and gemstones within 200 feet.

Host of Regiton
If Regiton successfully uses its Body Transfer ability, the creature affected is possessed by the essence of Regiton. The affected creature must make a save against disease every day (DC 35) or take 2d6 ability damage to all mental stats. The subject must then make a will save (DC 35) or be controlled by Regiton for 3d6 minutes. If the creature’s mental stats ever fall to zero Regiton takes complete control over the creature and it becomes a Host of Regiton.

Regiton immediately begins trying to rebuild its body. This takes a week, at least 10,000 gold pieces in gold, 10,000 gold pieces in steel, 5,000 gold pieces in gem stones (none worth less than 500 gold pieces, a minimum of five) and one large ruby worth at least 10,000 gold pieces. Once the body is repaired it requires one lightning bolt and it is ready to receive Regiton.

A Host of Regiton is as the base creature, except as below.
1) The host loses all class abilities
2) The host is cured of all diseases
3) Three times per a round it can fire a line of lightning the deals 15d6 damage
4) It can leave the host for one round, and attempt to possess another creature (requiring a will save, DC 35.) Regiton can automatically return to a rebuilt copy of its original body. If Regiton does not have a body for more than one round it is destroyed
5) The host’s CR is increased by 2
