Yelilis

Yelilis are strange creatures with the wings of moths, spider legs and with a mass of tentacles falling from their face. They have a large stinger, which is often stained red with blood. Their eyes are small and black and their face is made of a slimy, greenish flesh. They emit high-pitched screeches, which have specific meanings within Yelilis culture. In truth, Yelilis do not have a language, or even high intelligence. They are creatures with a simple imperative, survive and reproduce.

Yelilis eat flesh in large amounts, and a single Yelilis can eat an entire full grown man in a day. They can hunt other creatures as well, but humanoids are particularly appetizing to them. A normal Yelilis lifespan is about ten years, though it can be extended with magic. One mage bragged that he managed to keep his pet Yelilis alive for over thirty years until it finally died. Yelilis can produce a liquid from its mouth, which solidifies into a tough cocoon. A Yelilis can fully cocoon a creature in five minutes, so the creature must already be dead or somehow subdued. Escaping from a cocoon requires a strength check DC 25, an escape artist check DC 30 or for the cocoon to be destroyed (30 hit points, hardness 5)

Until the age of five, the eggs in the female Yelilis are still maturing and growing. Sometime in their fifth year of life, however, the eggs mature and the Yelilis enters a stage of something like pregnancy. During that time, the Yelilis’ hunger is multiplied, and she can eat much more than normal. Some eat twice as much as a normal Yelilis, but some are known to eat three or four times the normal amount, or even more. This stage lasts from eight to ten days, and during that time the Yelilis tries to attract a mate. The Yelilis emits pheromones that attract a male Yelilis, which can be detected for up to a mile surrounding the Yelilis. The male Yelilis protects its mate, especially during the second stage of pregnancy. During this time, the female Yeilis loses that ability to fly, and can only crawl at a rate of five feet per a round. It lays one egg a day, until it has laid as many eggs as human-sized creatures (or similar amounts of flesh from a different source) during its first stage of pregnancy. Once all the eggs are laid, the female leaves and the male fertilizes the eggs and watches over them, perhaps killing some humanoids and cocooning them for the children. In four to eight days, the eggs hatch. The male Yelilis watches over the young ones until they are big enough to take care of themselves, which usually takes about a month. At that time, the male leaves and the children are left to fend for themselves.

Yelilis are believed to have some connection to Kapikan, but this has not been proven.

Cone of Lightning: A Yelilis can emit a 40 ft long cone of lightning that does 7d6 electricity damage (reflex save DC 17 for half.) The cone appears as a series of smoky rings, connected by small arcs of lightning.

Poison: Injury, Fortitude DC 17, initial and secondary damage 1d6 constitution. The DC save is constitution based.

Alien Mind: Any affect designed to give control over or access to a Yelilis’ mind activates this ability. The creature casting this effect must make a will save, DC 17, or take 1d6 damage to all mental stats and have the effect negated. This happens before the Yelilis’ makes its own save against the ability.
