Shrolun
Shrolun are humanoid masses of tentacles, veiled in a large, black robe. No one knows what they really look like, as once they die their body dissolves, leaving only the robe. Physically, all that can be seen of a Shrolun are the tentacles coming out from under the robe, the tentacles coming out from its sleeves, and two white orbs where its eyes should be.
Shrolun have been known to speak, but only rarely, and when they do it is in a raspy voice. They typically refuse to converse with humanoids, calling them “lesser creatures.” Nothing is known about Shrolun society, or if they even have a society at all.
A Shrolun’s robe is considered to be a minor cloak of displacement. It cannot be removed from the Shrolun by any known magic while it is alive, however it is usable by any creature once the Shrolun is slain. Some legends claim that other Shrolun are drawn to humanoids who wear the cloak of one of their fallen kin, but it is unknown if this is true or not. Note that while a Shrolun gains the ability of displacement, it does not appear to actually be displaced, any many adventures may be surprised to see that their attacks go right through the creature that they are fighting.

Feed: Is a Shrolun is able to pin a living opponent with a grapple, it can begin to feed in that same round. To do this, it shoves its tentacles into the chest of the creature (causing 3d6 damage.) Every round, it pulls internal fluids and flesh from the creature, through the tentacles, causing 2d6 constitution damage and 2d12 damage. A Shrolun heals five hit points for every point on constitution damage the opponent takes. It is rumored that is a creature is killed by a Shrolun this way, it rises as a Shrolun in three days, though this has never been confirmed.
Gaze: Is a Shrolun is able to pin an opponent with a grapple, it can lift it to its eyes and force the creature to look into them. The creature is then affected by a “dominate monster” spell, DC 23 to resist.
Ray of Silence: As a free action (due to the Shrolun’s “Quicken Spell-Like Ability” feat) it can fire a ray of yellow energy from one of its tentacles. A creature struck by this ray is affected by a “silence” spell, as though it were centered on him, as cast by an 18th level sorcerer, DC 23 to resist.
Fearful Transformation: Any creature that sees a Shrolun transform into its natural form (see below) must make a will save, DC 23 or take a -4 to all attacks and saves for as long as it can see the Shrolun. This is a fear effect.
Alternate Form: While a Shrolun cannot truly shapeshift, it can adjust its shape slightly. As a full round action it can reduce itself to “medium” sized, retract the tentacles coming out from under its robe and transform the tentacles coming from its sleeves into small, bony hands. It now glides across objects now, instead of physically walking, which reduces its speed to 20 ft, but allows it to walk across nonsolid surfaces like water. Shroluns are clearly uncomfortable in this form, and spend as little time in it as possible. As a full round action, a Shrolun can transform back into its natural form. This does not provoke an attack of opportunity. The transformation is horrifying, and provokes the “Fearful Transformation” ability described above.
Evasion: As the rogue ability.
