The Stone Uprising

The Stone Uprising is a group of allied and particularly ambitious gargoyles, with the goal of creating an empire specifically for their race. The Stone Uprising is said to have anywhere from thirty to seventy members, but most of those are mere shock troops, regarded as being completely expendable by the upper members in terms of their long-term goals. There are rumored to be between ten and twenty upper members, all of whom have exceptionally high intelligence for gargoyles, and most of which are wizards.

The Stone Uprising is currently a fairly weak organization, but they have been known to make alliances with other species, specifically medusas. However, the organization is completely convinced of the superiority of the gargoyle race, and any alliance they make is temporary (though perhaps long-term.) In particular, they have made an alliance with a medusa named Arylin, which has lasted for over a year. Arylin is completely aware of The Stone Uprising’s treachery, but still deals with them because she believes that they need her as much as she needs them. Their relationship is basically an exchange of favors, Arylin calls upon The Stone Uprising to kill or intimidate her enemy medusas, and in exchange The Stone Uprising calls upon her to use her influence in her medusa clan to attack certain targets or to block off certain routes. Thus far, their relationship has worked well.

The Stone Uprising was founded, and is currently led, by an elderly gargoyle wizard named Taritazmos. Taritazmos oversees all major operations of The Stone Uprising, and even oversaw the deal with Arylin personally. Taritazmos puts a lot of faith into tactics and strategy, beyond that of magic, and believes that the new gargoyle nation will be created by slowly whittling away at the strength of humanoids. He is fond of saying that “Stone is stronger than flesh,” a slogan that has been adopted by his followers. Taritazmos spends most of his time studying strategy and planning his next attack, taking very little time for magical study. It has even come to a point of debate whether he is the strongest mage in the organization still, and some believe the others only still follow him because of his brilliant strategic mind.
