Vampire Fever
Called by many names, “Mind Fever,” “Insanity Flu” being just two of them, Vampire Fever is far more deadly than any simple plague. It is believed that a vampire created it while experimenting with foul diseases, and found a way to spread his own curse through the air itself. The way the story goes, he intended to make an empire of mindless servants, but the disease he created was imperfect when it was accidentally released.
Vampire Fever is spread through physical contact, either through infected creatures or through their blood. Vampire Fever is extremely resistant, and can survive in a drop of crusted blood for a decade. The DC is 18 and the incubation period is 1d4 days. Note that during the incubation period, anyone who makes physical contact with the host or the host’s blood is also exposed to Vampire Fever. By the time the first case arises in an area, dozens of people could be infected.
Vampire Fever does 1d4 con damage and 1d6 wisdom damage. Creatures that are reduced to zero wisdom become little more than animals, with an intense bloodlust, trying to attack whatever is nearby. However, is the disease is cured before the host dies, even if their wisdom is reduced below zero by the disease, the creature survives and its wisdom heals at a normal rate. Symptoms of Vampire Fever are an intense fever, dehydration and red welts appearing on the skin, especially the face.
However, what most people do not know about Vampire Fever (particularly, those who do not know its true name, recognizing Vampire Fever requires a DC 25 heal check) is that any who die while infected by it, even if they are not killed by the fever itself, rise as a Vampire Spawn in 1d6 days. These vampire spawn have an intelligence of 3, serve no master, and exist simply to hunt and feed. They still spread the disease, just as they did when they were alive. Also, any creature that they kill by their blood drain ability rises in 1d6 days as one of these vampire spawn.
