The Cult of Progression

The Cult of Progression was started almost fifty years ago by an alchemist of particular skill and talent. The alchemist was a victim of war, being trapped in between two opposing nations in disputed territory. His home city was constantly recaptured by the opposing sides, and for years he watched as innocents were killed or injured in the dispute. Being something of a skilled doctor, the alchemist tried everything he could to save those that were hurt, but all too often he lost the patient. Eventually, his own wife fell victim, dying while trying to assist him in mending a broken arm of a five year old girl. It was then that the alchemist decided to put an end to all war on the planet, no matter what the cost.

The Cult of Progression believes that it is the nature of the world to be in conflict. Any peace is temporary, and contract or treaty is bound to be broken, given enough time. The Cult of Progression believes that in order to stop all war, they must be willing to become the most powerful force in the world, and rule over the individual nations. Only then will there be security for all. In the meantime, they must sacrifice, be willing to cause pain or to kill in the name of the greater good; a peaceful world of progress and acceptance.

The Cult of Progression is mostly made up of neutral members. The Cult of Progression is mostly cell-based, individual cells work without even being in contact with higher members. The Cult of Progression puts great emphasis on scientific or arcane discovery, specifically in the pursuit of something called “The Ultimate Weapon.” The Cult’s leaders believe that this weapon would be so devastating that all the individual nations would kneel to its power, without it even needing to be demonstrated on a living target. Agents are sent to search for this weapon, and are authorized to do whatever it takes to obtain it should they find it.
